Character Sketch of Lencho in 100 – 150 words

Lencho was a hardworking farmer. He was an ox of a man. Despite having minimal resources, he earned a living by cultivating his fields. God was of great importance to him. According to him, God always helps those who have a good conscience. Thus, he turned to God for help when he and his family had reached a point of hunger and he had lost all hope. The postmaster, too, was struck by his strong religious convictions and helped him. Although Lencho was a farmer, he had enough education to write a letter. The way in which he communicates with God directly demonstrates his purity.

God was very important to him, but he had a tendency to doubt people’s intentions. Despite receiving those 70 pesos to help him, he never asked who sent them. Rather ironically, he humiliated his helpers by calling them “a bunch of crooks.”
